ATHANOR 1: THE AWAKENING (c) 2014, Eric Safar (p) 2014, Safar Games Preamble Welcome adventurer, before trying to accomplish the task I will submit to you, take the time to read these few pages. With this humble game, I offer you to live sensations that illustrious predecessors like, in my opinion, the "Manoir du Dr Genius" or "Le mystre de Kikekankoi" aroused. May they be thanked for it forever. Context Athanor takes place in the south of Italy in the 12th century. You are playing as a Franciscan monk, sent by his Holy order to make an inquiry in an abbey where suspect events have aroused many fears. You will lead this inquiry in order to discover the mysteries lying withing this abbey. Let your conscience be your guide and you may discover greater secrets that you could have thought of. Syntactic analyzer Playing through Athanor, you will have to type your orders such as: Verb + Noun (example: examine door, search chest). In some cases, you may be allowed to use more specific commands such as: examine left door. However, do try to respect a few rules: - Verb must be put in the infinitive form, - The typed noun must be in the singular. Some Basic languages are less powerful than others to analyze commands. You will also have access to specific commands: - INVENT: displays your inventory, - EXIT: shows the different ways out of the current view, - COMBINE or ASSEMBLE: this command allows you to combine an item with another one in order to create a new one (example: combine rope1 rope2 bucket), - FILLON, FILLOFF: activate/inactivate the filling of the surfaces (excluse to Oric's). Material clues Material clues occupy a major role in Athanor. I hope that the comeback of this concept will please you. Indeed, I can already assert it is only the beginning. Your Athanor exemplary contains the following clues: - 7 tile clues, - 1 tile plan, - 1 special clue with a numeric code, - 1 final clue. Game development Athanor was developed on the old machines without any emulator or Lotharek-like interface. The first version was on Oric 1/Atmos. The graphic tools and view-making have been made on Thomson To8D. After numerous material problems, you now have access to a 1-year of passionate work game. Most of it was coded in Basic language and assembler (6502, Z80, 6809, 8080 or 68000). The sequel is already in development process because the adventure of Athanor will spread on three opuses. We'll meet again soon...
